Bauer can usually figure out how
to make it
Bauer said that he is self-taught
in woodworking. He occasionally
purchases a woodworking plan,
but never makes it exactly like the
plan.
“I like to build it bigger and bet
tcr,” Bauer said.
Building it bigger can have its
drawbacks. One time Bauer made
a wine chest for a friend. The prob
lem was that he made it so big that
he couldn’t get it out of the base
ment in one piece.
Bauer admits that he has a few
projects that did not turn out like he
wanted them too. Those projects
sit in his shop waiting to be
adapted into other projects.
“I don’t throw wood away.
Every little piece can be used some
time.” Bauer said.
As far as having a favorite step
in the woodmaking process, Bauer
said that he likes every part.
“It’s a fascinating, useful hob
by,” Bauer said of his woodwork
ing. “I wish more teen-agers would
pick it up. Woodworking makes
you think, and you never get lone
some,” Bauer said.
