“...Never Had
Production Like
This Before.”
Nestled in the Cumberland Valley midway
between Chambersburg and Waynesboro in
Franklin County, the Mark Gayman family
farm 400 acres to produce the grain and
forages for their high producing herd, under
the prefix of Gaymere, these 188 Registered
Holsteins post a 21,539 lb. rolling herd
average. On the latest weigh in, the 162
cows that were in milk averaged 80.4
pounds per day. The most recent String
Performance Analysis lists 28 cows
milking more than 100 lbs., two of which
are at 167.5 lbs. and 161.1 lbs.
“We have never had production like this
before,” Mark said. “The highest daily
average before was only 65 lbs. I don’t think
our forages are anything great because it
was hard to harvest the crops this summer.
