lncMitr Frnilng, Saturday, Frtnmy I,
ANSWER Dick Shull asked how to eliminate down
drafts in chimneys. Thanks to Samuel Yoder, Muncy, for
writing that the chimney should be higher than the treetops
that are nearby. The chimney must be higher than the roof.
Also, the inside flue should be 4-inches higher than the brick
or block chimney. If a metal chimney is used, you can buy a
top that turns with the wind so that the opening is always
opposite the prevailing wind.
If the chimney is old either install a damper or smoke shelf
or put a top on the chimney with the pipe coming out of the
center with a swiveling top. Samuel writes that he will gladly
explain further if you write to him at Box 55, RR7,, Muncy,
PA 17756.
