Pa.DHIA Plans Corporate Meeting
STATE COLLEGE (Centre
Co.) The Pennsylvania Dairy
Heid Improvement Association
has finalized its program for the
ninth annual meeting of the corpo
ration to be held on Feb. 13 and 14
at the Days Inn Penn Slate, in State
College.
The program is split, with the
annual meeting to be held Feb. 14,
while educational programs start
during the previous evening.
At 7 p.m., Feb. 13, James Boyer,
Pa.DHIA data processing director,
is to present a workshop on com
puter hardware and software.
Specifically, he is to focus on
information needed before buying
a computer and what equipment or
programing is needed in order to
download dairy herd information
from the Pa.DHIA mainframe
computer to the computer at home.
Another workshop is to be pre
sented by Boyer, following the
annual meeting the next day. That
workshop is to focus on the Inter
net, and is to be a hands-on
seminar.
Specifically, Boyer is to teach
what is needed for accessing the
Internet, accessing Pa.DHIA
through the Internet, and how to
download Pa.DHIA herd data into

and they are being offered on a

The annual corporate meeting is
set to start with a breakfast buffet
at7:ls a.m., followed by a general
session.
Presiding over the meeting is to
be Pa.DHIA Vice President Norm
Hershey, a dairyman from Lancas
ter County.
Pa.DHIA President Lane Sol
lenbcrgcr, a dairyman from Frank
lin County, is to provide a wel
come and call to order.
Dave Dowler, an agricultural
and dairy extension agent from
Mercer County, is to provide a pre
sentation on new trends in manag
ing feed stuffs.
The special guest speaker is to
be James Ferguson, VMD, an
associate professor with the Uni
versity of Pennsylvania School of
Veterinary Medicine. He is to
speak about true protein and milk
urea nitrogen and how to use it to
better manage a dairy herd.

In addition, there is to be a busi
ness meeting, finance report, and
reports from the Data Processing
Committee, General Manager
David Slusser, the Resolution
Committee, and the president.
In addition. Sonny Meyerhoffer,
director to the National DHIA is to
report on activities there.
Following the business meeting
and reports, an awards luncheon is
scheduled to be held at the Day’s
Inn with Patty McMunay, from
Eighty-Four, scheduled to serve as
master of ceremonies. Slate Dairy
Princess Angela Werley is sche
duled to be guest speaker. Enter
tainment has also been scheduled.
An alternative program has been
organized for interested spouses.
Janice Derr is to lead the group
making money roses and wood
ward angels, playing games and
making crafts. In addition, there
are opportunities to shop in down
town State College, at the Nittany
Mall nearby, or at some of the
Penn State Campus stores.
Also being offered are tours of
the Pa.DHIA Service Building,
and the Central Milk Testing
Laboratory.
