FARM ANIMAL LEARNING CENTER - These small farm ani mals give youngsters a chance to learn more about the animals and their many contributions. Kids just love this exhibit on the upper concourse of the Large Arena, sponsored by Students for the Responsible Use of Animals COLLECTIBLES - For the seventh year, limited edition farm toy collectibles are commissioned for sale under the advance reservation system. This year's items are a Winross truck with a miniature (arm scene, an Allis Chalmers tractor, and a 1928 Chevrolet pick up truck bank. The truck and tractor models can be reserved in advance; limited quantities of banks are sold daily. COMMERCIAL EXHIBITORS - See this year's newest innova tions in farm equipment, services and products, and learn more about them from representatives of over 300 companies with exhibits around the complex. COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS - Cooking demonstrations are featured in the Food Pantry, as culinary students prepare tasty creations featuring Pennsylvania food products. Student chefs from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania will be on the West Lobby stage Saturday and Sunday, student chefs from the Har risburg Area Community College take over the cooking on Mon day and Tuesday, and area vo-tech school leaders and stu dents will present demonstrations on Wednesday. DAIRY CATTLE SHOW - Over 500 head of dairy cattle are expected to be exhibited at the Farm Show. Tuesday is Dairy Day with judging of six breeds in the Large Arena, followed by a parade of champions. From this group, the judges will select a supreme champion of the dairy show, whose owner receives an additional $l,OOO premium and banner. DAIRY GOATS - Sanctioned by the American Dairy Goat Asso ciation, this show features eight breeds of dairy goats in the Large Arena. This is a one-day show only, starting Thursday morning at 8:30 a m EDUCATIONAL EXHIBITS • Government agencies, universi ties and agricultural organizations always offer Farm Show visi tors valuable information on their services and activities Talk with representatives of these groups and get first-hand informa tion on a multitude of subjects. Over 200 vo-ag students receive Key stone Degrees for their involvement in agricultural projects, and a few are selected to receive State Star Awards for excellence in their fields. FARM SAFETY DEMONSTRATIONS - More emphasis needs to be given to farm safety education throughout the year to reduce the injury rate among agricultural workers. With the assistance of FFA and 4-H members, members of the Pennsyl vania Farm Safety & Occupational Health Advisory Board will present a variety of farm safety demonstrations in the Small Arena on Tuesday evening FARM SHOW SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION - The Founda tion provides scholarships to deserving agricultural students from donations, membership fees and a small part of the pro ceeds from the Junior Livestock Sale. Youngsters who have shown a market steer, lamb or hog at the Farm Show since 1993 are eligible to apply for scholarships, with 16 to be awarded on Thursday in the Small Arena prior to the start of the Junior Livestock Sale FASHION SHOW - Exhibitors in selected clothing classes have an opportunity to model their creations in the Family Living Area Models in both open and youth classes will be judged by a panel of fashion experts at 5 p m., following the cocoa cake and cookie contest FOLK DANCE FESTIVAL - Monday night’s folk dance festival in the Large Arena is a spectacular sight, as 60 sets of cos tumed dancers Vie for monetary prizes in three age divisions Judging is based on technique, uniformity, response and rhythm of the dancers FOOD COURT - Eleven Pennsylvania commodity associations offer their specialties for sale in the orange East Building Fea turing the tastes of Pennsylvania's finest agricultural products, the famous Farm Show Food Court is one place you'll want to For Rent • 3600 Gal. Their nding maneuvers are a popular item on the entertainment card HORSE SHOWS - Horse lovers will have plenty of excitement at this year's Farm Show, as 200 horses compete for premiums throughout the week. Competition starts on Sunday in Belgian, Percheron, Clydesdale and draft horse hitched classes The horse and pony pulling contests are held on Tuesday and Wed nesday evening, respectively State Police and 4-H drill teams perform on Saturday in the Large Arena, and a pleasure horse demonstration will be held Tuesday evening in the Small Arena HORTICULTURE CENTER • You are sure to find inspiration for your own landscaping projects when you see what our FFA members have done with their landscape exhibits in the horti culture center on the second floor of the Northeast Building HOURS - Farm Show hours are now 8 a m to9pm everyday except Thursday, when the show closes at 4 p m The blue Mam Building with commercial exhibits opens one hour later and closes one hour earlier than the rest of the Farm Show Complex ICE SCULPTURES • Culinary students from the Indiana Uni versity of Pennsylvnaia will delight visitors with their creativity and skillfull designs carved from ice Their sculptures will be made on Saturday and Sunday just outside the south entrance near the Food Pantry D.S.
