818-L«ncMter Farming, Saturday, November 30, IW6 4-H Horse Enthusiasts Come Out Winning HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) State 4-H horse club members were honored recently at the 37th annual State 4-H Horse Show, Oct 25-27 at the State Farm Show Complex. The primary purpose of the state 4-H horse program is to develop life skills in youth and skills in horse manage ment 4-H’ers develop riding skills, gain self-confidence, and learn proper care of animats. The state show culminates the year for approximately 7,000 Pennsylvania 4-H members enrolled in horse and pony 4-H clubs. To be eligible for this show, 4-H’ers had to advance through qualifying shows at county, regional, and district levels. More than 900 winners from the county and district competitions vied for awards. Events tested skills in showmanship, equitation, pleasure, jumping, driving, and timed events. Riders from all over the state competed In this 3 day event. The local 4-H “Hoof Prints” club had four representatives there competing. Alicia Kearns of Bethlehem won Ist place riding “Believe In Me” In the Hunt er Under Saddle class and 3rd place In Hunter Hack Horses. Sandra Omer, of Bangor riding “Golden Promise Cherokee,” participated In two classes, Jr. Equitation, and Hunter Hack Pony in which she received 4th place In both of these events. Meredith Frable of Kunkletown riding “Lady Quinn” and Ashley Rutt of Saylors burg riding “Super Advenger” both competed in the Sr. Equitation class and pinned 3rd and 4th consequently.
