Robinson helped develop the Ag
Horizons program and saved on
the advisory board for five years,
and he is an advisor to the Pennsyl
vania Nutrient Management
Board.
A captain in the U.S. Army
Medical Service for three years, he
served one year in Vietnam. He
and his wife Evelyn have eight
children, and they are active in
church and community events.
In making the presentation,
Roger Rohrcr, chairman of the
Chamber Ag Committee said the
award was made for Robinson’s
“effort in expanding ag production
profitability and ag education in
Lancaster County.”
James Shirk, Chamber ag ser
vices manager, reviewed the past
year. Because of the new real estate
tax base reassessment, the state
clean and green program got a lot
of attention. In addition, work is
developing for an ag exhibit with
the Hands-On House that will
reach 280,000 children over the
next seven years. The exhibit is
expected to be completed by next
spring.
In addition, the ag services com
mittee continues to provide eco
nomic development information
and will be involved with the Inter
national Day program at the 1997
Pennsylvania Farm Show in
January.

strong and growing agriculture
industry in southeast Pennsylvani
a, the bread basket of the East
Coast,” Shirk said. “We want to
help insure a profitable ag industry

Robert and Roberta L. Kindig,
Conestoga, as the recipients of the
1996 Century Farm award. Bob is
the great-grandson of Eli Kindis,
who purchased the 117-acre farm
toward the end of the last century

Hale. Sr., Dublin, NH. the 12th
editor-in chief of The Old Far
mer*! Almanac that has been pub
lished every year since 1792. Hale
told of his experiences as he con
tinues to appear on hundreds of
radio and television shows
throughout the county.
J. Roger Moyer, Jr., board of
directors chairman, brought greet
ings from the Chamber. Ken Meek,
immediate past chairman of the
agriculture committee, was master
of ceremonies. Four hundred and
fourty people attended.
