Beaver County resident was
elected to the highest office in the
Pennsylvania State Grange by the
delegate body during the 124th
annual State Grange Convention.
The session was hosted by War-
ren/Forest Pomona County
Granges at the Library Theater in
Warren.
William (Bill) Steel has been
elected Pennsylvania State
Grange master (president) for the
next two years. Steel, who was
previously vice president, will be
responsible for supervising the
state Grange office in Harrisburg
and overseeing all state Grange
programs, as well as visiting
Granges, hearing concerns of rural
Pennsylvania, helping members
solve problems and rep
resenting the organiza
tion on various agricul
tural and rural affairs
boards.
Steel, a 43-year
member of the Grange,
is a lay minister at St.
John’s Lutheran
Church, a tax preparer
with H & R Block and
is associated with his
father in a beef farm
operation. Steel is a past
president of the Beaver
County Extension As
sociation; and a past
chairman of the Youth
Conference of the Na
tional Safety Council
and the Arlington (Va.)
County Fair, which he
was a co-founder.
Steel is master of Big
Knob Grange #2OOB
and Beaver Pomona
Grange #66. He is also a
past director of youth
activities in the Nation
al Grange (1969-81);
and past state assistant
steward (1964-70) and
state overseer
(1992-96). Steel and his
wife, Mary-Lee, are the
parents of three sons
and live in New Se
wickley Township.
