Md. The deadline for entering
the 1999 Maryland Holstein Futur
ity has been set for Oct 31.
The 1999 futurity is to be desig
nated the 16th offered by the
Maryland Holstein Association
and the Futurity Committee. The
estimated value of the futurity is
$5,300, according to the
association.
A project of the Maryland Hols
tein Association, the futurity is
designed to stimulate interest in
breeding and exhibiting outstand
ing registered Holsteins in
Maryland.
Four nominations (payments)
are required each animal compet
ing in the futurity. The first pay
ment of $2.50 is due on or before
Oct 31.
Next year, a second payment of
$3 is due on or before July 31,
1997; a third payment of $6 is due
on or before April 31, 1998; and a
final payment of $lO is due on or

ber of females in the contest Eligi
ble heifer calves are those registerd
as being born between September
1995 and August 31. 1996.
Eligibility is maintained by con
tinuing to make payments on tune
in subsequent years, or before. If
an entered animal is consequently
sold before the futurity contest the
eligibility of the animal may be
retained by the new owner merely
by informing the committee of the
change of ownership and continu
ing to make the payments, if due.
It is the responsibility of the sell
er of an entered animal to inform
the buyer that it has been tittered in
the futurity.
There is alsoa production award
included in die futurity.
According to the official rules,
$260 is to be taken from the purse
and divided among the top five
tutunty winners mi the basis of the
animate* official DHIA or DHIR

records.
The production records used are
those started while a 2-year-old,
and have to show the actual
305-day lactation production, on a
twice-daily milking schedule. The
