Daylight Saving Time Ends
Until 2 00 a.m. on October 27, we've been adding an
hour to our days for Daylight Saving Time. Now we
“fall back” and lose an hour as we slide into the dark
days of autumn and winter. Ancient Druids worried that
the Sun might disappear entirely over the course of the
winter and leave them in complete darkness. From these
fears came the ritual bonfires and candlelightmgs
(jack-o'-lanterns) that are part of many holiday celebra
tions today, all originally intended to help bolster the
f°un’s energies and dispel evil spirits.

kt Put candles in the freezer before using to make them
burn longer.
Pumpkin Molasses Pie
2 nine-inch piecrusts, minutes. Remove weights,
unbaked prick crusts, and bake
3/4 cup sugar another 10 minutes. Cool.
1/2teaapoonsalt Combine sugar, spices,
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg an£ j pumpkin. Beat to
-1/2 teaspoon ground cloves gether eggs cream and
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon molasses. Combine two
3/4 teaspoon ginger mixtures and beat. Divide
