is available to the Out
standing Maryland
Holstein Scholar and
four $750 scholarships
will be awarded to other
Maryland Holstein
youth. These scholar
ships are made possible
through the generous
donations of Maryland
Holstein breeders and
friends.
Applicants must be
Maryland 4-H/FFA
youth who are enrolled
or have been enrolled in
a dairy project with
Holstein cattle. Students
must be attending a two
or four-year degree
granting institution in a
college of agriculture.
Scholarships are avail
able to both undergradu
ate and graduate
students.
Applications are due
to Scholarship Commit
tee Cochairmen Arthur
and Peggy Johnson by
Jan. 15,1997. All appli
cations will be consid

In his first year of showing markt
steers. Jay Zimmerman of Akroi
won the champion title with '
1,330-pound purebred Angus. X
was also named the champu
intermediate showman. In thi
livestock sale that followed the
stem show last Thursday nig* -
Jay sold his steer to Ephrai
National BAnk for $1,350.
Hope Long of New Provident
exhibited the reserve champic
and sold it to Weaverland Farms
for $1,150. She was also named
intermediate showman and had the
grand champion at Solanco Fair
held earlier this month.
Hope also showed the champion
heifer, an Angus, and Sara Nolt
showed the reserve champion heif
er. Sara was also named the
reserve junior champion
showman.
Daniel! Buchen was named the
senior showman champion, and
David Bollinger had the light
weight champion steer.
In the lamb sale. Holly Hoover
of Denver sold her 100-pound
champion carcass lamb for $3 per
pound to Core States Bank, and
Jeff Bollinger of Ephrata sold his
92-pound reserve champion lamb
for S2.BS per pound to Keystone
Farm Credit
In the hog sale, Amy Bollinger
of Manheim sold her 246-pound
grand champion market hog for
$2.50 per pound to Hatfield, and
Travis Donough of Manheim sold
his 254-pound market hog for
$1.85 per pound to Core States
