LAMPETER (Lancaster Co.)
Buyers, spectators, livestock
exhibitors, and a few hundred
more watched as 130 head of steer,
swine, and sheep went on the auc
tion block late last week at the
West Lampeter Community Fair
livestock sale.
At the start of the sale, the
1,466-pound grand champion 4-H
steer shown by Dale Livengood
went for $1,725 to Thomas Truck
ing, Lancaster, represented by
John Thomas. The FFA grand
champion, shown by Jay Hess,
weighing 1,272 pounds, went for
$1,350 to Darrenkamp’s Foods,
Lancaster, represented by Joe
Darrenkamp.
The 242-pound champion FFA
hog, shown by Todd Rohrer, went
for $BOO to Hoss’s Steak and Sea
food for $BOO, represented by Joe
Mizerak and Craig Campbell. The
264-pound 4-H champion hog,
shown by Philip Charles, went for
$1,050 to Leidy’s Inc., Souderton,
represented by Leon Stoltzfus.
During the hog sale, swine exhi
bitor Loren Hershey indicated that
the proceeds from the sale would
be donated to a children’s mission
in Lithuania. The hog sold for
$650 to Shultz Transportation,
Willow Street
The 126-pound 4-H champion
sheep, shown by Tiffany Dean,
was purchased by H.L. Wiker and
Son, Strasburg, for $1,025. The
116-pound FFA champion lamb,
shown by Kevin Boyer, went for
$5OO to Hoss’s Steak and Seafood
House, represented by Joe Mizer
ak and Craig Campbell.
The total amount raised at the
sale was $50,000.15. Auctioneer
was Alan Diffenbach from Diffen
bach Auction Inc., New Holland.
