HARRISBURG (Dauphin
Co.) The supreme champion of
the Pennsylvania All-American
Dairy Show (PAADS), annouced
late last week was a six-year-old
Jersey cow owned by Douglas
King and Michael Heath, of West
minster, Md.
However, there were six grand
dames of the week-long national
and regional dairy shows all
offered competition in the center
of the Large Arena of the Pennsyl
vania State Farm Show Complex
in Harrisburg.
During PAADS week the Pen
nsylvania 4-H and FFA youth hold
their final breed shows of the year,
the state Holstein Association
Holds its annual fall championship
and determines the All-
Pennsylvania champions, which
are to be published this month; and
then there are six , regional and
national dairy breed shows of the
six major recognized dairy
breeds Jersey, Holstein. Ayr
shire, Guernsey, Brown Swiss, and
Milking Shorthorn.
Sparklers Unique Jeanna, an
Excellent 92-point classified
Jersey, was supreme of PAADS,
but also was grand champion of the
Mid-Atlantic Regional Jersey
Show held as part of PAADS.
Earlier this year Jeanna also
took supreme champion honors at
the Maryland State Fair, and at the
ALL'AMERICAN
DAIRY SHOW
Douglas Evans holds the halter of his grand champion of'
the Eastern National Ayrshire Show, white receiving honors
from Merldeth Welderspahn, state alternate dairy princess.
1995 World Dairy Expo, she took
second place in the five-year-old
age class.
According to Mike Heath, she is
going to travel again to Madison,
Wis., to compete. For her PAADS
supreme title she earned her own
ers $6OO.
The supreme title at PAADS
awards $l,OOO in prize money
$6OO to the supreme, $2OO to the
runner-up and $5O to each of the
four other grand champions.
In the ring with Jeanna was
supreme runner-up Lynn Haven
Leadman Lilly, the grand champ
ion of the Eastern National Hols
tein Show, owned by the syndicate
of Maik Campbell, Alex Clay
poole and Doug Beatty.
That Pennsylvania trio which
keeps animals at Campbell Run
Farm in Ford City, also was named
premier exhibitor of the show.
Lilly is a 4-year-old, Very Good
89-point cow, that earlier in the
week, during the Pennsylvania
Holstein Association Fall Champ
ionship, placed first in her class,
but wasn’t named either senior or
reserve senior champion. The
Campbell Run Farm group, how
ever, was also named premier
exhibitor of the fall championship.
While it wa£ a different show on
a different day, the grand champ
ion of the fall championship show
was Penn Gate Chief Mark Alice, a
5-year-old owned by Steve and
