    Junior 3-Year-Old Grand At Central District Championship

HUNTINGDON (Huntingdon
Co.) The quality of show ani
mals at the Central Pennsylvania
Championship Holstein Show
held August 17 at the Huntingdon
County Fairgrounds surprised and
pleased show judge Ronald Hef
fner of Jefferson, Maryland.
Heffner, who judged the nation
al junior show in Louisville, said
the top five Holsteins shown by the
youth exhibitors in the junior
division were comparable to ani
mals shown in Louisville.
"These five animals,” Heffner
said just before selecting grand
champioii of the junior show, “all
deserve grand champion.”
Heffner then selected David
Kocher’s junior 3-year-old as
grand champion of the youth divi
sion. Kocher’s cow. Hearts Desire
Jethro Carla, was sired by
Hanoverhill Jethro TW, bred by
Eugene Corl and June Kocher.
Rachel Tanis’ cow from the
100,000-pound class earned
reserve grand champion in the
youth division. Ideals Mac Wayne
Radar, bred by Jake and Sallianne
Tanis of Ideal Holsteins. won the
best bred and owned award for the
open and youth shows.
Rachel said she would be retir
ing her favorite cow after this
championship show. The cow has
won a room full of ribbons and tro
phies for Rachel over the years.
Grand champion of the open
show went to another junior
3-year-old owned by Fred Strouse
and Frank Connelly, exhibited by
Solid Gold Holsteins. The animal,
Hyllside Skybuck Jo, was sired by
Hanoverhill Skybuck and bred by
Donald Gene Thompson.
Open show reserve grand
champion went to a senior 3-year
old owned by Mike Weimer, Fred
Strouse, Ken Raney. K. Colyer, R.
Gilligan, N. Goldenberg. and A.
Goldenberg. Cosper Will Special,
sired by Willowland Mark IV, was
also exhibited by Solid Gold
Holsteins.
Matthew Deputy showed the
open show junior champion ani
mal. The spring calf, Meadow-
Creek Roebuck Emily, sired by
Paradise-Roebuck, is owned by
Richard A. Deputy.
Reserve junior champion went
to Donald W. and Nancy K. Toms’
winter calf. Golden-Dream Encore
Jessica, sired by Marcrest Encore,
was shown by Jennifer Toms.
In the youth division. Amanda
Cessna showed the junior champ
ion, winter yearling, Brush-Creek-
Vu Charles Kala, sired by Boulet
Charles. ET.

Central Pennsylvania Holstein Championship Show, while
Jennifer Toms holds the halter of her reserve Junior champ
ion and stands with show Judge Ronald Heffner and Bed
ford County Dairy Princess Becky Carson.

sired by Browndale Stardust, was
named the reserve junior champ
ion of the youth division. Walnut-
Hills Farm exhibited that animal.

700 Horses Gather In Quentin
QUENTIN (Lebanon Co.)
Approximately 700 horses and
their riders and drivers from
across the nation will compete
here at the 62nd annual Quentin
Fall Horse Show, Quentin, Aug.
29 to Sept 2.
The event showcases a number
of breeds, disciplines, and styles
of riding and draws horses from as
far away as Texas.
Spectators arc invited to bring
lawn chairs and a picnic to enjoy
ringside as the horses including
jumpers, hunters, saddlebreds,
Morgans, roadsters and hackney
ponies and their riders compete.
The show also offers a playground
for children, a food court and
shopping.
Along with the opportunity to
watch quality equestrian competi
tion, one of the highlights for

The show features classes for
children and adults, amateurs, and
professionals. The $7,500 Quentin
Mini-Prix, a timed, show-jumping
class over fences, will be held
Sunday. Sept 1 beginning at 6
p.m. Also on Sunday, classes for
jumpers ridden by amateurs and
children will be held beginning at
