N. Alan Bair has been named director of dairy industry relations in Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences, effective August 19. His position will be supported by the college and the Pennsylvania Department of Agri culture. . Bair most recently was director of member and public relations for Cenex, formerly the Atlantic Breeders Cooperative, in Lancas ter, a position he held since 1978. In his new role, Bair’s primary responsibility will be to provide leadership to the Pennsylvania Dairy Stakeholder’s effort. He will serve as facilitator to bring to gether the diverse elements of the industry and find common ground to increase the viability and ex pansion of the dairy industry. Before joining Atlantic Breed ers Cooperative, Bair was an ex tension agent for Penn State Co operative Extension in Lancaster County from 1971 to 1978. More recently, Bair has served as a project leader for Volunteers for Overseas Cooperative Assis tance (VOCA) in Mesobereny, Hungary in 1995, advising co operative officials on organiza tional structure and long-range planning. Bair is a member of the Penn sylvania Council of Cooperatives (PCC), and served as president from 1993 to 1996. He also has chaired the member relations committee of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives. He served as president of Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences Alumni Society from 1989 to 1991.
