    Four-Way Tie For Premier Exhibitor Banner
At Northern Tier Championship Show

History was made at the second
Northern Tier Holstein Champion
ship Show as Bob Parr announced
premier exhibitor.
After checking the figures for
accuracy, the clerks of the show
confirmed a 4-way tie for the
coveted award between Lynn and
Bonnie Miller, Sweet Peas Farm,
Jericho Dairy, and Fraley Farms.
Besides sharing the title for pre
mier exhibitor, Lynn and Bonnie
Miller also hadhhe distinction of
being named the prcm ; er breeder
of the show, which boasted ISS
animals and was judged by
Richard Keene.
The Millers also showed the
grand champion of the day. Royal
Haven Inspire Quill, a 4-year-old.

dawn Inspire Angel-ET. Fraley’s
“Angel” was also the grand
champion of the youth division.

named the reserve senior and
reserve grand champion.
Among the junior animals, John
Castrogiovanni showed the overall
junior champion. His animal, Cast
lemont Astre Trisha, was a spring
yearling. The reserve junior
champion of the open division was
Norkval Encore Laser, a summer
yearling owned by Linda and Ger
ald Kisner.

The Geld day is a sanctioned
event in this year’s ongoing Prince
George’s County Tricentennial
observance. Everyone is invited to
gain an appreciation of the role of
agriculture and agricultural re
search in state and local history,
observe modem fanning prac
tices, socialize with friends, and
enjoy a low-cost noon lunch
served by the Calvert Caballeros

The day’s schedule begins with
complimentary coffee r jid dough
nuts at 8:30 a.m. T wo separate
hayride educational lours will de
part every 20 minutes from 9 a.m.
to 12:30 p.m.
Tour I will feature presentations
by active and retired professionals
from the College of Agriculture
and Natural Resources, University
of Maryland at College Park. One
tour stop will deal with managing
the white-tail deer problem.

Field Day
U.S. Department of Agriculture
scientists at the Beitsville Agricul
tural Research Center (BARC).
And representatives from the
BARC visitor center will present
an historical review of USDA
BARC contributions to Maryland
agriculture.
The university’s Maryland
Agricultural Experiment Station
has been conducting research at
the Beitsville location since 1973
under a joint arrangement with the
USDA. The research focuses on
agronomic, environmental, and
entomological topics.
To reach the Maryland research
site from the north, take Interstate
Highway 95 or 1-295 (Baltimore-
Washington Parkway) to High
way 212 (Powder Mill Road). Exit
to the east; turn right (after 1-295)
onto Soil Conservation Road. Pro
ceed about one mile and turn left
onto Beaver Dam Road. Follow
Beaver Dam Road for about one
mile. The facility is on your right.
From the south and east, take
1-95 (Capital Beltway) north to
Exit 23. Follow Highway 193
(Greenbelt Road) east, and turn
left onto Soil Conservation Road.
Proceed about one mile; turn right
