Maryland Dairy Princess

FREDERICK, Md. The
Maryland Dairy Princess program
celebrated 35 years of success re
cently. The anniversary gala, held
at the Holiday Inn in Frederick,
was highlighted by a pageant in
cluding 20 former princesses, and
the coronation of Sarah Elizabeth
Bedgar as the new state Princess.
Maryland State Comptroller
Louis Goldstein came from Anna
polis to attend the formal event, in
which Eve area dairy princesses
vied for the state title. Contestants
included Sarah Bedgar. who rep
resented the North Central area,
Jessica Fritz from Carroll County,
Jana Edwards representing the
Eastern Shore, Dora Smith from
Frederick County, and Erin Feuil
let from the South Central region.

Sarah Bedgar Is
Sarah is the daughter of Paul
and Patricia Bedgar of Freeland.
She is an eight-year member of the
Parkton 4-H club, where she has
held the positions of president,
vice president, secretary, and his
torian. She has also been a mem
ber of the Baltimore County Live
stock club for two years. As a 4-H
member she has been active in
public speaking, leadership, citi
zenship, dairy judging, and dairy
bowl. She looks forward to attend
ing the National 4-H Congress in
Memphis this November.
Sarah’s dairy bowl career has
taken her as Car as Louisville,
where she went in 1995 as a mem
ber of the state Dairy Bowl team.
She placed ninth individually at
the Maryland Dairy Bowl contest,
and third in the Maryland Junior
Dairyman contest

She also lasted success last year,
in fitting and showing with some
of her Jerseys, taking a Reserve
Champion ribbon at the Hereford
Fair, and also a second place at the
state level in Timonium. She took
home top honors in Baltimore
County's Junior Herdsmanship
contest last year, and won a Hol
stein youth award for senior youth
at the county level. Another of
Sarah’s achievements is holding
the position of secretary of the
Hereford FFA Chapter. She at
tended the state FFA convention

where she has been very active
milking, feeding, caring for
