year’s World Dairy Expo judges
have been named. They are:
• Central National Ayrshire
Show: Ron Mosser. Mosser is a
field representative for Superior
Agri-Services and resides in
Geneva, Ind. A member of several
All-American Selection Commit
tees, Mosser is also president of
the Indiana Jersey Cattle Associa
tion and a past World Dairy Expo
offical for the Central National
Jersey Show.
His lifelong involvement with
Pleasant Ridge Farm his led to
several showring successes
including selection as premier
breeder three times at World
Dairy Expo and two times at the
Royal Winter Fair. Pleasant
Ridge, which is home to ISO head
of young stock, is also very famil
iar with shows on the national
level. Mosser’s Jersey have had
several class winners and champ
ions through the years, along with
a ihrcc-time premier sire at World
Dairy Expo.
•Central National Brown Swiss dispersal in 1990, McKinven is

World Dairy Expo Names Judges
•Central National Guernsey
Show: Fowler Branstetter. An
international judge and area mark
eting manager for Protiva, a unit
of Monsanto, Fowler Branstetter
is an active dairy producer. More
than 100 registered Guernseys and
Holsteins are part of the herd in
Edmonton, Ky., which has been
operating since 19SS. Branstetter
has bred and developed 17 All-
American nominees, including the
1989 unanimous All-American
and the unanimous All-Canadian,
Guernsey Aged Cow. (now scored
EX-96).
Branstetter’s judging assign
ments have included the Royal
Winter Fair in Canada and the
Royal-Melboum Show in Austra
lia. In the United States, he has
also judged three national breed
shows, and state and regional
shows in 18 states, along with
being an official Hoard’s Dairy
man contest judge.

In the pastm Morrell has owned
and shown several nominated ani-~
mals in both the United States and
Canada. He has been involved in
fitting, showing, and judging
cattle since the early 19705.

active dairy judge and strong sup
porter of the dairy industry,
George Barlass is familiar with
judging at World Dairy Expo. In
past years, he has served as the
Ayrshire. Brown Swiss. Guernsey
and Milking Shorthorn official.
Barlass has also judged in 24
states and eight foreign countries.
Major shows judged include All-
American Jr. Show; Eastern
National Show; Western National
Jersey Show; International at Chi
cago; National Cattle Congress;
Pennsylvania All-American; Pan-
American Exposition; Royal
Winter Fair in Canada; National
Jersey Show in England and on
the Isle of Jersey; National Jersey
Show in Brazil; Royal Easter
Show in Australia; Pacific Nation
al Exposition; and the World
Jersey Conference Shows in New
Zealand, England and Costa Rica.
Barlass is also the former owner
of GIL-BAR Jersey Farm, which
won premier breeder 82 times and
premier exhibitor 63 times at
major shows throughout the Mid
west. GIL-BAR, under Barlass
management has bred or deve
loped 108 Excellent cows, 19 All-
Americans and 29 Reserves. Bar
lass has also bred the only Jersey
to be named grand champion at
World Dairy Expo four times and
the only Jersey to be named
supreme champion of World
Dairy Expo.
•Grand International Red &
White Show; David Brown.
Brown is owner and manager of
Cher-Own Holsteins, located in
Paris, Ontario, Canada. The herd
has been first place in Ontario pro
duction and second in all of Cana
da in recent years. Cher-Own is
also known throughout the world
for several great champions, All-
American and All-Canadian
awards, including the two-time
supreme champion of World
Dairy Expo, Merkley Starbuck

more than $1.4 million is to be
distributed to Pennsylvanians
enrolled in the Farmers’ Market
Nutrition Program (FMNP) dur
ing the months of July and
August
“This innovative program pro
vides nutritionally-at-risk mothers
and children with coupons to buy
fresh fruits and vegetables from
more than 280 farmers’ markets
across the commonwealth,” said
Brosius. “It is a wonderful oppor
tunity to promote better health and
increase support for Pennsylvani
a’s farmers’ markets.”
As a pilot program in 1988,
FMNP served only two counties
in Pennsylvania. This year it is

acres and was home to 180 head.
In early July of this year, a young
cow dispersal of 140 lots featured
everything under six years of age
including the calves.
By the age of 36, Brown had
won his first premier breeder ban
ner at World Dairy Expo and
received the second the following
year. Brown has been an active
exporter, with embryos and lives
tock finding homes in England,
Italy, Japan, Australia, Brazil,
Mexico, Germany, and the United
States. Numerous judging oppor
tunities have included national
shows in Canada, United States,
and Brazil.
Program
expected to serve more than
100,000 participants in all 67
counties and will provide addi
tional sales for the over 400 parti
cipating vendors.
“Federal dietary guidelines
recommend that one should eat at
least five servings a day of fruit
and vegetables,” Brosius said.
“Programs like these help to
ensure participants eat a balanced
diet, putting them on the path to a
healthier lifestyle.”
Expectant mothers, nursing
mothers, and children ages three
to five, enrolled in the Special
Supplemental Nutrition Program
for Women, Infants and Children
(WIC) arc encouraged to apply.
