R iSOMERSET HILLCREST SAYLORS DAIRY FARM Richard Saylor and his father Maynard have this new Dairy - of Distinction In Somerset County, located near Rockwood. They farm 800 acres and milk 250 cows and have that many heifers and calves too. The farm was purchased In the early 1900’s and Richard Is the 3rd generation to live on the farm. Over the years, expansions have been made to keep up with the times. Recently a new freestall barn was built to house 200 head. A TMR Is used and the cows are milked In a flat parlor. They raise com and alfalfa to supply the rouphage, and they have two full-time employees. Richard and his wife Patricia have three children, Shawn 23, Samuel 13, and Sarah 11. Riding Arena Ph. 701 E. They have 150 Holsteins that average 21,600 lbs. of milk and are milked in a double six milking unit. While the parlor Is 28 years-old, new computerized equipment has been Installed to determine milk weights and feed requlrments of each animal at the time of milking. Their calves are raised by another farmer and come back to the farm just before freshen ing as two year-olds. The farm came into the family in 1937. Son Todd and his wife Rosalie and daughter Tanya and her husband Kenneth are all Involved in running the farm.
