At Trout Spring Farm, Lancaster, John E. Kreider and Den
nis and Carol Kauffman and family have Joined efforts to
receive the 1996 Dairy of Distinction award. They farm 95 acres
and milk 45 registered Holsteins that average around 20,000
lbs. of milk. They actually have an additional 60 heifers and
calves because they have been blessed with a run of heifer
calves, Including several sets of twins. They have quite a num
ber of VG cows in the herd, and they showed the first place
junior two year-old at both the Lancaster and Lebanon dairy
shows last year. The herd BAA is 104. Dennis and Carol have
three children, Mellsa 23, Melanie 21, and Melonlca 18. The
family works hard to keep the cows comfortable and give them
the best feed.
