Donald and Jill Birchfield and Donald’s parents Ronald and
Marlene Birchfield farm 350 acres In Crawford County near
Conneaut Lake The land was purchased by the family in 1940.
They milk 60 Holstein cows and average 65 pounds of milk per
day in the tank. The cows are housed in a stall bam with pipe*
line milkers. They raise 120 acres of corn, along with oats and
alfalfa to feed the cows. Donald believes you need to keep the
cows milking at full capacity and you need to like the cows If
you are going to do a good Job with them. The next generation
Is on the farm. Adam Just turned six years-old.

Laldig View Farm, this new Dairy of Distinction, located
north of Harrisonvllle In Fulton County, has been In the family
for 160 years. It was named a century farm last year. Curtis and
Donna Brant represent the fourth generation on the farm, and
they milk 55 head of Holstelns with a herd average oyer 19,000
pounds of milk. The cows are housed in freestalls and milked
in a stantion barn. Curtis puts good family relationships along
with good management and herd health at the top of the list of
things needed for a good dairy operation. Curtis and Donna
have three children, Carrie 15, Kellie 12, and Evan 5.
