National Meeting on Poultry
Health and Processing in Ocean
City, Maryland. This highly
respected meeting is sponsored by
Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc.
(DPI), the trade association work
ing for the continued progress of
the Delmarva Peninsula’s 1.5
Approval Given For 12 Farm
HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.)
Agriculture Secretary Charles
C. Brosius has announced the ap
proval of easement purchases for
12 farms encompassing 1,279
acres of prime farmland.
“Gov. Ridge is committed to
continuing Pennsylvania’s agri
cultural tradition,” Brosius said.
“This program protects thousands
of acres of quality farmland for fu
ture generations.”
The Farmland Protection Pro
gram was initiated in 1989 with a
$lOO million bond issue approved
by Pennsylvania voters. The pro
gram allows the state and counties
to purchase development rights
referred to as casements to
guarantee that farms will remain
as agricultural land.
Including easements approved
today, 630 farms in 31 counties

advance registration is preferable.
