Dairy fanners across the North east have an opportunity to parti cipate in the new dairy profit seminars Empire Farm Days on Crop Tips At Field Day HOYTVILLE, Ohio New techniques in field crop produc tion will be mi display July 30 in Hoytville as the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Cent er and Ohio State University Ex tension host the 1996 Field Crops Day. “Across the Midwest, there’s a growing a rapidly growing interest in narrow row com,” said Paul Houdashelt, manager of the Hoytville branch of the OARDC and coordinator of the event. The field day will feature researchers and a grower who has been work ing with narrow-row com. Another session will focus on the use of bio-solids on farms, “a growing area for our clientele,” Houdashelt said. Other presentations will focus on optimal use of com perform ance trials, herbicide-tolerant crops, using an oats cover crop, and more. The use of oats as a cover crop may be part of a pro posed federally funded sediment reduction plan. Field Crops Day will also in clude displays from OARDC, Ohio State’s Agricultural Techni cal Institute, and OSU’s College of Food, Agricultural, and En vironmental Sciences. The event is free and open to the public. It will take place from 9 a.m. till noon on July 30, rain or shine. “The only difference if it rains would be that the programs will be presented indoors instead of out doors,” said HoudashelL “We just won’t have a farm tour if it rains.” DAVID S.
