The Pennsylvania Junior Holstein Association has announced this week its annual junior dairy cattle judging schools open to all youth, regardless of dairy cattle breed affiliation. The two-day schools help leach and prepare youth for showing and judging dairy cattle. Several diffe rent breeds are always included and type and conformation prefer ences are discussed. The programs run from noon the first day until noon the next The cost per student is $25 for those slaying overnight and includes the school cost, hotel room and an evening meal. For those who can commute, the cost of the school and evening meal is $l5. For ovemighters or commuters, a second member of the same fami ly who attends receives a $5 dis count on the cost of the school. Each school offers at least 12 classes of animals to judge. Youth get the opportunity to judge cattle, learn about the cattle evaluation process and how to give reasons for the decisions. The school helps build knowledge and confidence, as well as establishing fellowship. The Holstein Association annu ally holds two schools in Pennsyl vania one for youth located in the western portion of the state, the other for youth in the east. This year, the Holstein Club and dairy cattle community in Beaver and Lawrence counties are serving as host for the western school, July 8-9. The teacher of the western school is to be John Burkct, of East Freedom.
