Usually I’m not at a loss for
words, but the other week I lost
my voice completely. I could
barely whisper and within five
days I was to be the liturgist in our
church. So I read and reread the
chapter that I was to read aloud
and hoped for the best. In fact I
was so intent on whether or not
my voice would come back that I
completely forgot that I also had
to give two prayers. Not until
almost the moment of my rising
and speaking did I remember. So,I
had to improvise as I had not
planned ahead. It was an anxious

Youth Schooling
Horse Show
Backtrackers 4-H
Horse and Pony Club of
Northampton County is
sponsoring an Open
Youth School Horse
Show on Saturday, June
1.
The show will be held
at the Northampton
County 4-H Center,
Nazareth, at 9 a.m.
This show is open to
any youth between the
ages of 8-19. It will
offer walk-trot, open,
jumping and Gymkhana
classes throughout the
day. Each class is $S per
entry and day rates will
be offered.
This show is offered
as a learning experience
for the youth of the area.
Jan Thomas will be
judging. It will be an
informal show. Appro
priate riding boots and
hard hats are required.
No T-shirts are allowed.
Neat, but not formal
dress is required.
Entrants will receive
help and encouragement
throughout the event.
Ribbons and awards
will be given in each
class.
There are age restric
tions on certain classes
and restrictions
throughout divisions in
the show. This allows
all exhibitors an oppor
tunity to participate and
learn.

Due to our wet weather, we
have an ample supply of rhubarb.
In fact I have so much that I’ve
been sharing with my neighbors.
The price in the local grocery store
was SO cents a stalk. At that rate
the 40 stalks I pulled to freeze
would have been worth twenty
dollars. However,. I know that
they barely pay half of that price If
I try to sell it to them.
My sister gave us a few roots
three years ago and I think they all
grew. Now she is moving and 111
share some with her. One neigh
bor made a pie and another tried to
make sauce like her mother made.
It was very easy to freeze as it
does not need to be blanched like
other vegetables.
Do you like water cress? If you
do you ought to try growing some
garden cress. It is a good substi
tute and can be harvested in 10 to

14 days. It can be cut and recut as
it grows back. I usually let some
plants give seed heads and there
fore have new seed for the next
year.
Long ago a relative gave me
some scallions that can be planted
in the garden and then forgotten.
