Saturday, March 16, 1996 MOUNT JOY (Lancaster Co.) —More than 44 Lancaster County Fruit Growers Association mem bers and friends attended the annu al banquet last week at The Coun try Table Restaurant Dr. Tim Elkner, Lancaster County horticultural agent spoke about his background as an exten sion agent in Texas before joining Lancaster County Penn State Cooperative Extension last year. Elkner provided some details of his work at a recent interview at his office. What proves challenging for Elkner is the diversity of horticul ture in the county, encompassing not only fruit production but veget ables and turf. “So many areas to cover can prove really frustrating at times,” he admitted, indicating the calls that come in regarding some of the Produce Auctions Ready For Season EPHRATA (Lancas ter Co.) It’s growing season and the produce auctions are ready! In the next several weeks, auctions will open for the year and include a variety of spe cial sales. Many begin with special bedding plant and flower sales. Lancaster Farming provides the following opening dales and times for the auctions as of presstime, listed alphabetically: • Cumberland Valley Produce, three miles north of Shippensburg, beginning Thursday, March 21, at 10 a.m. The auction will be open Tuesdays and Thurs days to start until further notice.
