Dairylea Informational Meeting,
Editor,
I read with interest your article,
“Hatfield Announces Payment
Changes.” Was it out of the good
ness of Hatfield’s heart, that they
decided to pay producers what
they were earning? Are they ack
nowledging that this was a dis
count system?
What precipitated such a
change of heart? Could it have
been from some producers mark
eting large numbers of hogs out
side the area?
Editor,
Dear Folks,
Thanks so much for your won
derful paper. It sure has a lot in it
and I realize that is a teal chal
lenge for a weekly paper. My hus
band reads a lot of it. I love your
articles on the people and families.
So nice and refreshing. So upbeat
and positive. I get tired of news

In talking to Hatfield’s procure
ment people, they acknowledge
that hogs from outside (Ohio-
Carolinas) cost $5-7 more, per
head, once they are hung on the
line. This tells me Hatfield
believes, my hogs are worth less
than hogs from other areas. Add
this amount ($5-7) to your bottom
line and some of us exporters (out
of state marketers) will maybe
start selling hogs to Hatfield
again.
