Grain Market
ST. JOSEPH, MO
FEBRUARY 21, 1996
Wheat bids began climbing upward
again due to continued crop ooncemi. Com
bidf were slightly lower on profit talcing
and lack of new export orders. Soybean
bids showed no real direction, Kansas City
was slightly higher on wheat strength but
slowed export sales limited gains. Wheat 2
to 3 cents higher with Portland up to 10
cents higher. Com 2 to 4 cents lower. Sorg
hum 4 to 5 cents lower. Soybeans mixed.
Traders concerns over winter wheat condi
tion after last month's very cold spell,
pushed bids higher. Damage to crops has
not been assessed fully but Illinois repotted
deterioration from the cold spell. Sharp
declines yesterday were seen at overdone
and tome corrections were made. Export
business hat been very slow the past cou
ple of weeks but grains inspected for
export figures came in better than expected
yesterday for year to date and last week.
Slightly lower com bids were due to profit
taking on the board. Export demand hat
been very good over the put few week's,
limiting declines. Soybean bids couldn't
decide which direction to go with wheat
higher and com weaker. Some fund buying
wu noted in today's trade, offering light
support Improved demand for soybean
meal kept bids from falling too far but lack
of foreign interest wu negative.
