get out of Washington create grass roots
partnerships: negotiate, don’t dictate.”
Hawkins said that she felt really good about
being part of government when Dunn read
from the cards.
“The fact that he came out of Washington
indicated to me the real support there is at the
national level.”
She said the words Dunn read, about ham
mering away at archaic government ineffec
tiveness, “are words frequendy heard, but it’s
much nicer when they come out and and
deliver them personally and thank you for the
job done.”
Speaking on behalf of the members of the
team, Hawkins said, “They felt really good
that he took time to read (about the team’s
achievements) and talk about several specific
initiatives that we had undertaken and that
were successful.”
For herself, she said, “It really kind of made
me feel patriotic about it. As a taxpayer, a lot
of us sit around and cmplain, and when I was
in (private) business, I was constantly
complaining ”
She said receiving the recognition and the
go ahead and support from the government
administration to be effective and deliver, “I
felt like I was instrumental in doing some
thing to help make our government more effi
cient and less burdensome.
“This is the beginning of what I hope will
be a widely accepted way of government
doing business placing our people where
people are, instead of by counties.
“Here in Pennsylvania, we hope to make an
entire statewide team. On a region-wide basis,
we’re hoping to start field teams within three
or four other states, hopefully within the next
year.”
Houp have invited all eligible con
testants and teams to participate
