Label changes and new
products:
• With the introduction of
Roundup Ready soybeans in
1995, Roundup Ultra may be
applied as an over-the-top
application. These soybeans
will be used most effectively
when drill planted and where
there is low to moderate weed
problems or certain perennial
species. Apply 24 to 48 ounces/
acre (<64 ounces/acre total).

nacle) Concert 25DF (1:1
mix) is available for use on nor
mal soybeans. Reliance STS
(2:1 mix) provides good annual
broadleaf weed control.
• Synchrony STS (3:1 mix)
will be available as three for
mulations: a 42 percent DF
bulk product that is applied at

Future Products
• Action (CGA248757) from
Ciba is a postemergence,
contact-type herbicide that pro
vides excellent control of vel
vctlcaf, but also has activity on
some other broadleaves. Action
will be tank mixed with a varie
ty of other products to increase
the weed spectrum. Action will
have an Experimental Use Per-

broadleaf herbicide for soy
beans being developed by
FMC. It is active on several
broadleaves including lambs-
quarters, pigweed, morning
glory, nightshade, jimsonweed,
and nutsedge. It will require
tank mixing to improve control
of grasses and common rag
weed. Authority will have an
EUP in 1996, with expected
label registration by 1997.
• Axiom 68DF (thiafluamide
+ Sencor) is a pre-applied pro-
duct from Bayer that will be
used in com and soybeans.
Thiafluamide is one of the most
active members from the chlor-
oactamide family (Dual, Lasso
etc.), and is applied at low use
rates (0.5 Ib/acrc). Axiom will
control foxtail, crabgrass, bar
nyardgrass, panicum, and sev
eral annual broadleaves.
• Chart 75WDG
(0GA277476) is a sulfonylurea
herbicide from Ciba being
tested for post
emergence weed con
trol in soybeans.
Broadleaves will be
the main target of
Chart; however, some
grasses and nutsedge
will be suppressed.
Chart is short-lived in
the soil and should not
interfere with crop
rotations. Ciba will
have an EUP for 1996
and hopes to have it
labeled by 1997.
• Balance (isoxaf
lutole
EXP3II3OA) from
Rhone Poulenc pro
vides broadleaf and
grass control PRE in
com. It controls a
wide number of weed
species, including
velvetleaf, lambs
quarters, pigweed,
common ragweed,
smartweed, and
nightshade, as well as
some grasses. It will
have an EUP in 1996
and should be mark
eted in 1997.
• Firstßate

(cloransulam-methyl)
is a product being
developed by DowE
lanco for use in soy
beans. It is a broadleaf
herbicide that con
trols lambsquarters,
pigweed, velvetleaf,
ragweeds, and mor
ningglory when
applied either PRE or
POST. Firstßate is
another ALS inhibit
ing herbicide, so
resistance manage
ment must be consid
ered. It is anticipated
to be marketed by
1998.
