The Philippines recently
bought 150,000 metric tons
(5.9 million bushels) of U.S.

year-to-date purchases from the United States to
233,500 rot (9.2 mbu). Cora production in the Phil
ippines is down again this year, and despite the
incredibly high costs of feed ingredients, poultry
and swine production is growing by 5-6 percent
and 3-4 percent, respectively. U.S. Feed Grains
Council programs in the Philippines are enabling
the United States to capture a large share of this re
emerging market.
The U.S. Feed Grains Council’s long-term
investment in Korea, empasizing high-value and
industrial applications for U.S. com are paying off.
In 1995, total com imports to Korea are estimated
to reach 10 million metric tons (394 million
bushels), with the United States supplying more
than 98 percent, compared to just 10 percent in
1993.
Egypt recently purchased 67,900 metric tons
(2.7 million bushels) of U.S: com, bringing current
marketing year imports from the United States to
more than 1.26 million metric tons (50 mbu).
