    Hunterdon Hoppers 4-H Club
At th October meeting of the
Hunterdon, N.J. Hoppers 4-H
Club, the group chose presenta
tion topics. The group also picked
people to be on the Halloween
Carnival Night Committee.
Several new members joined
the club. The group also discussed
who would work on the Holiday
Workshop Committee.
At the next meeting, many
members will go to the extension
center and share their rabbits with
the 4-H Prep Club.
Scissor Wizards 4-H Club
The Scissor Wizards 4-H Club
met in the beginning of September
for the election of officers. The
following were elected: Bobbie
Black, 17, of Somerville, presi
dent: Becky Black, 13, of Some
rville, vide president; Kelly
Kretder, 14, of Whitehouse, trea
surer; and Dawn Russo, 16, of
Neshanic, news reporter.
As the month went on, the club
became very busy. They did their
first community service project fo
the year by weeding the White
House Station Library’s landscap
ing. They also held one craft meet
ing and one cooking meeting at
Sue Posbcrgh’s home in Neshan
ic, where they learned to make a
Thanksgiving feast.
Maryland 4-H Members Shine
The Maryland 4-H members
who competed at the Eastern
National 4-H Horse Roundup at
Louisville, Ky., on Nov. 4 were
not horsing around.
Sixteen participants from
around the state were tested in
their knowledge of horse judging,
hippology, and general equine
information. Individuals also per
formed various demonstrations
and participated in a public speak
ing contest The results of the
competition are as follows:
Hippology contest:
•Holly Bennett 15, of Chur
chville (Harford County) was high
individual overall. She was Ist in
the stations phase and Bth in the
judging phase.
•Kara Schmidt 16, of Emmor
ton (Harford County) was 3rd
overall. She was Ist in the written
phase and 6th in the judging
phase.
•Other team members were
Rachel Dayton, 16, of Stewarts
town. Pa., (Baltimore County 4-H
member); and Beck Brown, 16, of
Conowingo (Cecil County).
•The Maryland team was 2nd
overall, 3rd in the written phase,
3rd in the judging phase, and 2nd
in the stations phase.
Horse judging:
•Charles Schwinn, 18, of
Brooklyn (Anne Arundel County)
was Bth in performance judging
and 22nd overall.
•Other team members were
Allison Walmsley, 16, of Chester
town (Queen Annes County 4-H
member); Kim Shrout, 16, of St.
Charles (Charles County); and
Jamie Brand, 17, of Simpsonville
(Howard County).
•The Maryland team was Bth in
performance judging and 11th
overall.
Team demonstration contest:
•Daniela Bals and Laura Smith,
both 16 and neighbors from Simp
sonville, from Howard County
presented “The Healing Touch,"
alternative forms of veterinary
medicine, and won Bth place.
Individual demonrtration:
•Jennifer Pearce, 19, of Foun
tain Green (Herford County)
placed 11th with a presentation on
the use of horses by Native
Americans.
Public speaking contest:
•Jennifer Eaklc, 18, ofMt Airy
(Howard County 4-H member)
gave a speech on colic and
received 11th place.
Horse bowl:
•Amana Moore, 16, of Fallston
(Harford County); Sarah Crouse,
17, of Sudlersville (Queen Annes
County); Chrissy Lucchesi, 16, of
Mattawoman (Charles County):
Patience Pantos, 17, of Olney; and
Erika Vasauskas, 14, of Ashton
composed the Maryland team.
Both of the latter two are Mont
gomery County residents with
Howard County 4-H membership.
The Maryland team advanced to
the sth round and tied for 10th
place.
Various 4-H leaders volun
teered their time to coach the
teams. Shirley Geis and Daryl
Ann Buschling, both from How
ard County, coached the Hippolo
gy team. Betsy Massey (Anne
Arundel County 4-H leader) and
Bob Shirley (Carroll County
Extension 4-H agent) coached the
Horse Judging team. The Mary
land communications contestants
were coached by-Denise Freberts
hauser (Baltimore County 4-H
Faculty Assistant). The Horse
Bowl team was coached by Roxie
Cross (Queen Annes County 4-H
leader).
Chris Johnston (Queen Annes
and Kent County Extension 4-H
agent) served her 6th year as
Horse Bowl co-superintendent,
and Bob Shirley (Carroll County
Extension 4-H agent) has served
as co-superintendent of the
demonstration contest for 12
years.

York County 4-H Council Elects
Officers
At a recent York County 4-H
Council meeting members elected
officers for die 1996 year.
Results were president, Lucas
Kraft, Manchester; vice president,
Paul Kitzmiller, Wellsville; sec
retory, Heather Jasienski, Felton;
assistant secretory, Beth Baer,
Glenville; treasurer, Denise
Lauer, Spring Grove; assistant
treasurer, Phil Baer, Glenville;
r.ows reporter. Heather Bankert,
Red Lion; historian, Kelly Bank
ert, Red Lion; social committee,
Jay Rishel, Seven Valleys, and
RlJelle Kra.'*, Manchester.
Appointed to be board rep
resentatives were Paul Kitzmiller
and Heather Jasienski to the 4-H
fair board; Jason Baer, Glenville,
to the 4-H Center Board; and
Lucas Kraft to the 4-H Advisory
Council.
The 4-H Council also set a very
active agenda for county mem
bers. Activities scheduled include
Officers’ Training, Pizza Party,
and a New Year’s Eve’s Eve’s
Party on Dec. 30 at the 4-H Center
from 3-10 p.m.; a Lock-In from 8
p.m.-8 a.m. on March 22-23 with
admisson being five non
perishable food items which will
be donated to a local food bank; an
Ice Skating Party in April at
York’s Memorial Rink; Bring A
Friend Day Camp for members
7-12 years old on April 27 at the
4-H Center; White Water Rafting
for members 14 and older in May;
a Car Wash and Bake Sale in June;
and the Annual Kiss-A-Pig con
test in July.

Kiddin’ Around Goat Club
Needs Members
Hi! My name is Rijelle Kraft,
and I am the vice president of the
York County 4-H Kiddin’ Around
Goat Club.
I would like to invite anyone
who has a goat or has an interest in
learning more about goats to join
our club. We do lots of fun things
and leam all about goats at our
meetings.
Some of the thing you could
team if you join our club are the
proper amount of feed, water, and
nutrient supplements your goat
needs; how to groom your goat,
trim hooves, clip them for shows
and more. You an leant how to
teach a goat to pull a can, and of
course how to milk a goat'and
enjoy the delicious products that
come from goal’s milk. You can
also participate in shows and earn
beautiful ribbons.
Whether you have pygmies,
angoras, dairy goats or wethers,
there is something for you in our
club. Our club meets on the first
Friday of the month at the 4-H
Center in Bair.
