ment and to thank all those who
helped make it happen.”
As of today, the Agricultural Preserve
Board has preserved 18S farms totaling
16,400 acres. The Lancaster Farmland Trust,
the Preserve Board’s private sector counter
part, has preserved 60 farms totaling 3,695
acres. Ed Goodhart, chairman of the Preserve
Board, noted “we are fourth in the nation
among counties with preserved farmland and
first in Pennsylvania. More significantly, we
are the largest agricultural county in the
nation preserving farmland. We think this
success demonstrates tremendous commit
ment from our elected officials and landow
ners toward keeping Lancaster County in
agriculture and retaining our way of life.”
The Preserve Board will host a celebration
and reception on Friday, January 12,1996 at
Franklin and Marshall College, Sports & Fit
ness Complex, Field House from 7:00-9:00
p.m. “We’re expecting public officials on the
state and local level, landowners and other
residents of the county who have helped in
this effort to attend,” Daniels said. “It’s an
opportunity to say thank you to the many peo
ple who played a role in reaching this miles
tone.” Tickets are $lO and $25 and may be
purchased by calling the Agricultural Pre
serve Board at 299-8355.
The Lancaster County Agricultural Pre
serve Board is a publicly folded, county prog
ram which has been preserving farmland
since 1980.
