Notebook

Ida Risser
It’s beginning to look a bit like
Christmas around here. I’ve final
ly made swags for our two front
doors from spruce boughs and
holly. Our six bushes are covered
with red berries this year. We’ll
put the tree up nearer Christmas.
Earlier, I retyped our address
list as many changes of addresses
were making it difficult to read.
And, then there are always a few
names to remove due to deaths.
We send almost 90 cards and it is
difficult to remove any names. It
certainly takes time to write notes
in the cards but it is a good way to
keep in touch with friends.
We have gathered many deco
rations over the years and so they
are stored at more than one place.
I do hope that we find all of them
before the holidays.

Over the yean I’ve found that
riding in a car with your child is a
good time to talk. There are no
interruptions from other people
and you can share thoughts. The
other week I had this opportunity
to interact with a grandson as we
traveled to our camper.
It was a long drive and even
though I had taken books and a
puzzle along, it was the little
things that entertained him. We
made a newspaper hat and “babies
in a cradle” with a handkerchief.
One fun item was a very big scarf
that became our tent. He imagined
wild animals that would come to
visit us and we would quickly run
away.
In the afternoon my husband,
son and grandson climbed a
mountain. I stayed behind and
