• Of all farm sales in Lancaster
County since 1984,8% were fami
ly sales among the Amish.
• The Amish are buying larger
farms (average of 76 acres) and
selling smaller farms (average of
70 acres). Progressive Plain
Groups and the English are buying
farms smaller than those they are
selling.
• Corporations are paying the
highest price for farmland at
$11,379 per acre. The average for
Traditional Plain Groups is
$5,288, for Progressive Plain
Groups $5,477, and for Unidenti
fied $6,498.
