BIRD IN HAND (Lancaster
Co.) The National Rhea Semi
nar board of directors met recently
here at the Plain and Fancy
Restaurant.
Approximately 60 people
attended the meeting, including
breeders and prospective breeders.
Speakers at the meeting
included John Poehling, president
of the national association, who
spoke on the future of the rhea
industry. The USDA recently
approved rhea products.

tion is coming to Madison, Wis.,

Dairy land.”
“It’s appropriate that this land
mark anniversary convention be
held in a state where support for
the National Farmers Organiza
tion has always been so strong,”
said Steve Halloran, National Far
mers president “It will be easier
for many of our members to attend
and help celebrate this milestone.”

president and vice president.

Rhea Seminar Examines Industry’s Future

Hoyt has his own cosmetic line
with rhea oil and leather goods. He
also sells his own brand of rhea
jerky sticks, summer sausage, and
ham.

from Sharon and is now processing
birds. She also is selling the meat
and is involved in marketing to
grocery stores and restaurants.
Wayne Waggoner from Bigler
ville discussed how to promote
your own birds and products and
the importance of supporting the
business by using the products and
joining an organization.
Several area vendors were also
present at the show. Donations for
the raffle and silent auction for
rhea research came from various
area organizations.
