An evergreen bog plant, the cranberry is closely relat
ed to the blueberry Our native American cranberry,
larger than the European variety (which is also found
in North America), is the one grown commercially. It
has been in cultivation at least since 1840, and is preva
lent on Cape Cod and other parts of Massachusetts, in
New Jersey, and in Wisconsin, Commercial growers
prepare their bogs for annual flooding. The high-bush
“cranberry," which is of the hon
eysuckle family, is unlike the
bog cranberry, which comes
from the heath family
