Planetary Party
In another week, we’ll be gathering for Thanksgiving,
but this week the planets are coming together for a pre
liminary starlight conjunction. On the 16th, Mars will
be just a degree south of Jupiter, and Venus will pass
nearly as close to Jupiter on the 19th, pursuing Mars until
dusk on the 22nd. By Thanksgiving night next week, the
new crescent Moon will join the gathering of Jupiter,
Venus, and Mars. In Roman religion. Mars was the god
of war, although in earlier times he was associated with
agriculture. The seasons on Mars, our closest planet, cor
respond roughly to those on
Earth, but temperatures in the
Martian winter go to -90° F,

Feeder Cattle
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK
NOVEMBER S, 1995
Compared to last week: Feeder cattle
and calves over 600 lbs steady to 2.00
higher. Demand good for cattle destined to
feedlots. Steer and heifer calves under 600
lbs steady with fairly good demand. Qual
ity of supply average at best Weigh condi
tion of yearlings average to full; calves
average. Flesh condition of yearlings most
ly medium; calf flesh continues highly var
ied from slightly thin to moderately fleshy.
However calf flesh still improving each
week for buyers with medium flesh
becoming the norm. Wheat pasture pros
pects ate dismal in Oklahoma. A minimal
number of calves will go to wheat before
February. With $5.00 wheat it is likely that
wheat grazing will be limited in final half
of the season also. Slaughter cows steady.
Slaughter bulls SO higher. Packer demand
moderate. Utility cows most popular
among buyers, however only few to choose
from. Near 775 cows and bulls sold with
70 percent going to packers. Receipts this
week 10,725; last week 12,489; last year
14,060. Supply consisted of 49 percent
yearlings and calves over 600 lbs; 44 per
cent calves under 600 lbs; 7 percent cows
snd bulls. Prices follow with weighted
average weight and price in parenthesis.
