at the Manheim Farm Show.
Shepherd’s Leadline Attracts
Record Crowd At Manheim

In an elegant display of wool fash
ions, Manheim Farm Show ended
its opening night on Monday with
the Shepherd’s Leadline.
Twelve contestants dressed in
wool finery led their favorite sheep
groomed to their showy best
around the exhibition circle.
The competition was divided
into two categories, junior and
senior.
Senior division winners were
Jessica Stoltzfus, first; Saralr
Zurin, second; and Kathy Musser,
third.
Junior division winners were
Laura Newcomer, first; Amy
Haines, second; and Jessica
Schmidt, third.
Jessica Stoltzfus wore a 60 per
cent wool blend brown vest with a
blue, brown, and cream 100 per
cent wool plaid kill Her crossbred
market lamb wore a color
coordinated wool scarf.
The 15-ycar-old senior winner
is well known in livestock circles.
She showed the supreme champ
ion and grand champions at the
Lancaster County 4-H Roundup
and several fairs throughout the
county. Jessica is the daughter of
Frank and Irene Stoltzfus of
Elizabethtown.

Sarah Zurin modeled a 100 per
cent wool navy button-down knit
sweater with coordinating navy
and green plaid slacks that are 70
percent wool. Her Dorset ewe
lamb Holly wore a matching wool
collar, a wool halter, and two
bows, one on the rump and the
other accenting her head.
Sarah is the 14-year-old daught
er of Gary and Judy Zurin of
Mount Joy. She is the secretary of
the Lancaster 4-H Woolies Club,
and enjoys raising and showing
sheep. In addition to ribbons for
her sheep in the last several years,
Sarah has received the Novice
Shepherd of die Year Award and
the Pennsylvania Dorset Breeder's
Youth of the Year Award.

jacket with coordinating wool
plaid shorts, Kathy Musser and her
Suffolk-Border Leicester wearing
a matching scarf placed third in
senior competition.
Fourteen-year-old Kathy is the
daughter of Ken and Linda Musser
of Mount Joy. It’s Kathy’s second
year with the county 4-H Woolies
Club and she is raising three mark
et lambs for her project.
In the junior division, Laura
Newcomer topped the competi
tion. She portrayed Molly Mcln
tire, a collector’s doll from “The
American Girls Collection.”
Laura wore a navy blue 100 per
cent wool sweater with a bright
plaid pattern and a navy blue flared
skirt made by her mother. A wool
beret tilted at a jaunty angle and a
red shoulder bag over her arm
added (o the portrayal.
Laura’s Suffolk ewe lamb wore
a matching plaid wool scarf with
self fringe, red ear bows and a beret
in wool.
The 11-year-old winner is the
daughter of Paul and Eileen New
comer of Mount Joy.
Dressed in a charcoal gray and
red plaid wool skirt and red vest
that she and her mother made,
Amy Haines and her Hampshire
lamb Maverick, wearing a match
ing wool scarf, took second place.
The nine-year-old is a member of
the 4-H Woolies Club and gave a
spinning, weaving, and wool dye
ing demonstration at Conewago
Elementary School.
Third-place winner Jessica
Schmidt wore a 100 percent Shet
land wool sweater with a sheep
pattern knitted across the front, a
wool kilt skirt, and a wool felted
hat.
The 13-year-old daughter of
Peter and Laurie Schmidt, Jessica
has won numerous ribbons for her
sheep and has gamed awards for
Novice Shepherd of the Year and
showmanship.
