HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.)
Over two hundred cows were
entered in the National Guernsey
Show, held in conjunction with the
Pennsylvania All-American Dairy
Show, and the awards were
divided among various exhibitors.
The grand champion female and
senior champion female was Jastes
Ben Joy, exhibited by Ben Joy
Syndicate of West Salem, Ohio.
Joy was the outstanding junior
three-year-old cow and had the
best udder in her agedlass. She was
previously selected a grand
champion of the 1995 Maryland
State Fair and supreme champion
of the 1995 Kentucky State Fair.
Lebanon Valley B Kari, exhi
bited by Thomas Smith of Leba
non Farms in Annville, Pennsylva
nia, was the reserve champion and
reserve senior champion of the
show. In addition. Kari was the
best senior female toed and owned
by the exhibitor and best senior
three-year-old cow.
Littlefield’s Senior Charity,
owned by Elizabeth Littlefield of
Littlefield Farm in Watertown,
New York, won the Total Perfor
mance Cow Award. A banner and
trophy were presented by the
Pennsylvania Guernsey Breeden
in honor of Lee Yost of Benton,
their longtime employee and a
longtime member of the All-
American Show Committee. Lit
tlefield also received a plaque and
$lOO from the American Guernsey
Breeders.

Honors Split In National Guernsey Show
selected junior champion female
and the best junior female owned
and bred by the exhibitor, Joshua
Craig of North Bangor, New York.
Jasmine was also selected junior
champion and best animal bred
and owned by the exhibitor in the
National Junior Guernsey Show,
for youngsters bom between 1974
and 1985.
Snider Homsestead Farm of
New Enterprise, Bedford County,
Pennsylvania, walked off with the
prestigious premier breeder and
premier exhibitor awards for the
show. These awards are based on
performance points exhibitors can
earn for six of their animals.
Sniders Fayettes Brett, exhi
bited by Aaron Gable with Snider
Homestead Farm, was the grand
champion of the Junior Guernsey
Show.
Norman Hill of Woodbine,
Maryland, served as judge for the
Guernsey competition.
