their sheep looking the best at all
times.”
Kelly topped Nicole this time in
the show ring, but the two friends
say they often show at the same
competitions and alternately take
championships for their Corrie
dales and in showmanship.
Kelly, a 14-year-old from Lime
kiln, keeps her sheep at her grand
mother Ruth Hartman’s home. Her
grand champion overall breeds, a
yearling ewe named Diane, also
won at Allentown and Kimberton
Fairs and the grand champion
fleece award in Missouri.
Nicole, who is the Berks County
Lamb and Wool Queen, is the
daughter of Dawn and Theodore
Knepp of Mohnton. Her homebred
spring ram champion was also
named grand champion of the
breed at Kutztown and Allentown
fairs.
Reserve champion ram and ewe
over all breeds were shown by a
brother and sister duo. Jay and Jen
nifer Zimmerman of Akron. The
two showed Southdowns. It was
the first time that Jay showed the
ram, which had been purchased
from Steve Kwiset of Clarksburg.
Jennifer showed the same ewe that
was supreme champion over all
sheep at the Elizabethtown Fair.
