Kitzmiller, Eaton Show Supreme Champion Sheep At York

YORK (York Co.) One of
the highlights of the year for sheep
breeders is the moment when the
supreme champion ram and ewe
are chosen at the Open Breeding
Show at the York Fair. On Monday
night, Paul Kitzmiller, Wellsville,
had the supreme champion ram, a
Montadale, and John Eaton, Jr.,
Windser, had the supreme champ
ion ewe, a Dorset The winners
were chosen from a class of all 12
breed grand champion.
In the Montadale breed, Kitz
miller also had the grand champion
ewe, and Jennifer Flinchbaugh,
York, had the reserve champion
ewe.
In the Dorset breed, Eaton also
had the reserve champion ram, and
Brian Banket Hanover, had the
champion ram and the reserve
champion ewe.
In the Cheviot breed, John
Sara Hoke
Sara Hoke shows the supreme chami

Herman Hake.
Eaton, Sr., had the champion ram,
the champion ewe, and the reserve
champion ewe. Betty Jane Koeh
ler, Allentown, had the reserve
champion ram.
In the Hampshire breed, Judy
Waltersdorff, Red Lion, had the
champion ram, and the reserve
champion ewe. Wey Farms, Kutz
town, had the reserve champion
ram. The Marlin Klinedinst family
had the champion ewe.
In the Oxford breed, Mike
Koehler, Schnicksville, had the
champion ram, and both the
champion and reserve champion
ewe.
In the Shropshire breed, Wey
Shropshires, Kutziown, had all
four champions.
In the Southdown breed. Matt
Trostle, Red Lion, had the champ
ion ram. Jennifer Flinchbaugh,
York, had the champion ewe. And
Amanda Miller, Mertztown, had
both the reserve champion ram and
the reserve champion ewe.
Shows Supreme At York
A&hley Stine, East Berlin, had
in market Steer Of the champion Limousin.
In the Suffolk breed, Denny
Haugh, Red Lion, had the champ
ion ram. Troy Ness, Felton, had the
reserve champion ram. And Bran
don Smithson, Street, Md., had
both the champion and the reserve
champion ewe.
In the Natural Color breed, Jen
nifer Flinchbaugh had the champ
ion ram, and Greta Dise, Glen
Rock, had the reserve champion
ram. Emily Bankert, Red Lion, had
the champion ewe, and Randy
Irwin, Freeland, Md., had the
reserve champion ewe.
In the Corriedale breed, Joyce
Bankert, Red Lion, had all four
champions.
In the Other Wool breeds,
Orangegate Farm, had the chapip
ion ram. And Randy Irwin, Free
land, Md., had the reserve champ
ion ram, the champion ewe, and the
reserve champion ewe.
Tim Hall, Mahontango Game
Farm, Dalmatia, was the judge.

YORK (York Co.) The
grand champion Angus became the
supreme champion of the open
class market steer show at the York
Fair Monday afternoon. Sara
Hoke, 18, from Glenville, was the
winner of the top award with her
steer named Hornet. Judge Dean
Bryant, University of Maryland,
called her light heavyweight entry
“well-balanced.” Hoke is a fresh
man at Penn State York Campus.
The reserve supreme champion
was the champion from the Other
Breeds show, a crossbred steer
shown by Homan Hake, Etters.
Hake is 11 years-old and has been
showing steers for three years.
The reserve champion Angus
was shown by Kelly Myers, Tho
masville; and the reserve champ
ion in the Other Breeds show was
shown by David Newpher, K&K
Cattle, Fleetwood.
In the Hereford show, Jodi Dut
rey, Dallastown, had the champ
ion, and Travis Reid, Dallastown,
had the reserve champion.
Raymond Stough. Spring
Grove, had the champion Simmen
tal, and Jennifer Flinchbaugh,
York, had the 1 * reserve champion
Simmental.

Lamb Win Goes To Burrell

Burrell already has plans for the
check that he will receive in a few
days. -
“Buy more sheep,” said Burrell,
when asked what he planned to do
with the proceeds of his market
lamb, named champion of the
junior show at the York Fair.
It was a first champion market
lamb win ever for the 15-ycar-old
Dover exhibitor, who raised seven
market animals this year. The
champ is a crossbred Suffolk and
Exhibitor of the champion market lamb in the Yolk Fair's
junior division was Michael Burrell. The champion was a
crossbred Suffolk. k

Heavyweight: 1. Travis Reid.
competed in the light heavyweight
class.
Burrell, who works with his
show lambs over an hour every
day, believes that both feeding add
exercise play a large role in raising
a winning animal. He is a sopho
more at Dover Area High School
and has shown in both 4-H and
open class competition for several
years.
