WESTMINSTER, Md. The
Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair
recently kicked off a week of fun
and excitement Those seven days
became a time for 4-H and FFA
kids within Carroll County to
reflect on their accomplishments
for the year.
Some buildings at the fair dis
played rows of home canned
items, from beans to jellies. There
were cakes and pies, breads and
muffins, and more. Field crops and
art, photography and home envi
ronment exhibits lined the shelves
and hung from the walk.
The newest addition to this
year’s fair included a Llama show
manship class. Llamas are fast
becoming a part of the local live
stock scene. This year, Carroll
County added the llama category
to give young llama owners a
chance to exhibit just like their
friends with more conventional
livestock.
Many of the llamas exhibited by
children at this year’s fair were
leased from Briar Patch Farm in
Finksburg, where 9-year-old Brian
Brubach and his family have been
introducing llamas to the area for
the past six years.
Another new category in this
year’s fair was the writing cate
gory. The category was developed
when a new writing club called the
4-H Flying Pencils proved how
prolific Carroll County youngsters
have become with their writing
skills. The county is the first in the
