SUMMIT STATION (Schuy
lkill Co.) Reu-Hel Farms, of
Mohrsville, was named premier
breeder and exhibitor of the 1995
Southeast Pennsylvania District
Holstein Championship Show,
Thursday, at the Schuylkill County
Fairgrounds, near Summit Station.
The 300-acre family farming
operation is incorporated by
Elwood and Ruth Ohlinger and
their daughter and son-in-law
Scott and Connie Troutman. They
have about 120 registered Hols
teins with a rolling herd average of
more than 24,000 pounds of milk
on twice-day milking.
They also showed the senior and
grand champion Holstein, a
4-year-old, CS-Owl-Creek Mark
Carey, bred and owned by Scott
Troutman out of dam Reu-Hel
Farms Ned Boy Caress and sire
Walkway Chief Mark.
From the left, Glen Stoltzfus holds the reserve junior
champion of the open division, while Rattle Hushon holds
the halter of her son Jacob’s Junior champion.
Pork Prose
(Continued from Pago D 3)
nursery depopulation is the next
option. By following these steps,
the disease status in numerous
herds has been improved. All vet
erinarians in this state indicate that
it’s difficult to completely elimi
nate the virus from the herd. Dr.
Trayer mentions that the Dee plan
is most successful in herds with
250 sows or less.
4. Beyond these eradication
steps, all-in-all-out is vital for
maintaining production in a PRRS
positive herd.

Judge for the show was James
Burdette, of Windy-Knoll-View
Farm in Mercersberg. He thanked
the exhibitors for the priviledge of
judging the show and the quality of
animals presented.
The show had been held in past
years at the Kutztown Fair
grounds. It was held for the first
time this year at the Schuylkill
County Fairgounds, a facility that
was “very nice” according to exhi
bitors and show organizer Kenneth
Raney, of the Pa. Holstein
Association. -
The facility had ample parking,
good facilities and no outside dis
ruptions. The fairgrounds are
located a little off the beaten path,
along Rt. 895, near Summit
Station.
Showing the reserve senior and
grand champion was Joshua
Hushon, of Hushon Farms in
Delta. His aged cow, 6-year-old C
