REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio
Research proposals are now being
solicited for projects addressing
significant issues for the Jersey
breed and Jersey milk producers.
Priorities for research funding
are:
• Nutrition of high-producing
Jerseys (particularly practical
feeding methods to maximize pro
duction of valuable milk compon
ents);
• Factors affecting yield of pro
ducts manufactured from Jersey
milk;
• Factors affecting net income,
longevity, and lifetime profit;
• Optimal young sire usage;
• Biological and economic effi
State Announces Potato
Research Board Changes
HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.)
Agriculture Secretary Charles
C. Brosius announced one new
appointment and three reappoint
ments to the Pennsylvania Potato
Research Program Board.
Board members review research
proposals and select projects to
address pest and disease problems
or choose improved plant
varieties.
“We welcome our new board
member, and thank those who will
continue to serve,” Brosius said.
“Board members will work on
behalf of Pennsylvania’s potato
farmers, who in 1994 produced
over $29 million worth of potatoes
on 19,000 acres.”
The 11-member board includes
10 potato growers nominated by
their fellow producers and the sec
retary of agriculture or his
designee.
The new board member is David
A. Bender of Chambersburg.
Franklin County. Bender was
appointed to fulfill the remaining
two years of the term of a former
board member who is no longer a
potato producer.
Reappointed board members

Advisory Committee after the
Dec. 1,1995 submission deadline.
The Committee will forward its
recommendations by Feb. 1. 1996
to the AJCA Board of Directors,
which awards funds at its meeting
in March.
The policy of the Foundation is
to fund projects only from invest
ment income, and to decline pay
ment of overhead costs. Monies
will be available for approved pro
jects after April 1, 1996.

research priority).
Since its inception, the AJCC
Research Foundation’s competi
tive grants program has provided
partial or full funding for approxi
mately nine worthy projects each
year. Awards averaged $4,700 per
project in 1993, 1994 and 1995.
More than $250,000 in grants
have been awarded since 1988.
