non-performing investments
The Steiner does the work of a dozen different single-purpose
machines. Better. All it takes is a few minutes to change attachments and
you’re ready to mow, move dirt and snow, edge, blow, chip, aerate and
more. All as you move effortlessly across your grounds on a machine with
an articulating frame and hydrostatic transmission.
The Steiner. The turf tractor for people who believe in value-based
investments and hard work. Test drive one for yourself at your local Stein
er dealer.

com research is changing.
Varieties are being selected to
provide com growers with a grea
ter harvestable yield, reduced crop
losses and lowered input costs, and
increases in the value of grain and
forages harvested.
Research under way at the sta
tion, on which construction was
finished early this year, is examin
ing how com varieties are bred,
what genetic technology is trying
to do, how varieties are produced
to fight diseases, and to grow com
to provide maximum yield and
nutrition.
Dave Whitaker, research project
manager of the station, said the site
is one of four silage research sta
tions and one of 26 com research
stations in the country that works
with small plots to study new var
ieties. The New Holland site is the
eastern research station, providing
information to growers from Illi
nois to New York and south to
North Carolina. This is the 11th
growing season at the New Hol
land site.
A key area of research is the sil
age demonstration sites, especially
narrow row technology. Studies in
New York have shown that silage
harvest has improved by 10 per
cent with no adverse effect on the
quality of the silage, according to
Whitaker. In a test plot. Pioneer

On the 15-inch rows, plant popula

The results “lodf really good,”
said Whitaker, Donald Specker,

Altogether, this "fine tuning” of
