Bishcroft Farm Becomes Fair Premier Exhibitor, Breeder
CJ. HOUGHTALING
Tioga Co. Correspondent
WHITNEYVILLE (Tioga Co.)
Taking seven blue ribbons,
along with reserve senior cham
pion and reserve grand champion
titles at the Black and White Open
Dairy Show during the Tioga
County Fair recently, Bishcroft
Farm of Roaring Branch earned
the distinction of premier breeder
and premier exhibitor. Bishcroft
Riker Sara, a senior 2-year-old,
led Bishcroft Farm to first place,
with first best udder in her cate
gory, as well as receiving reserve
champion honors.
Not far behind Bishcroft Farm
in vying for the premier titles was
Esßem Dairy of Mansfield with
junior, senior, and grand cham
pion Holsteins. Representing her
family’s farm, Olivia Courtney of
Mansfield owned and bred the
junior champion Holstein, Esßem
Broker Connies Legacy, a spring
junior yearling.
Olivia is also the owner of Es
bem Enhancer Bute Buddy, the
6-year-old that took first place and
first best udder in her category be
fore going on to win the senior
champion and grand champion ti
tles. A seasoned winner. Buddy
has garnered numerous first place
ribbons at past shows, including
grand champion in the junior dairy
show at the Tioga County Fair
three years running. Olivia’s
grandfather, Bernard Courtney of
Mansfield, was Buddy’s breeder.
Tricia McElwain of Canton
owns the reserve junior champion
Holstein, Cha-Do Stardust
Twinkle-TW, a fall senior calf
bred by Charles and Doris Porter
of Canton.
Referring to the four grand
champion and reserve grand
champion Holsteins, judge Cree
din Comman of Carlisle, said,
“These are outstanding cows that
will do real well as the shew sea
son goes on.” Of the grand cham
pion, Comman said he chose her
because “she was really in bloom,
not having been freshened too
long.” He also noted Buddy had a
tremendous amount of dairy char
acter and particularly' liked her
openness of rib, while the reserved
champion had good teat place
ment over the other winning cows.
