Youth Showcase Talent At Carroll SAN ANTONIO, Texas—By a narrow margin, directors of the National Live Stock and Meat Board here took action to move toward consolidation with the National Cattlemen’s Association to form a new organization to rep resent the beef industry. According to current Meat Board bylaws, such a change in the organization’s structure required 75 percent of directors to approve the changes. Citing the loss of effective multi-species, programs in the interest of a beef-specific future, directors voting against the consolidation said they wanted to send the message that there would continue to be a need for “meat” programs and that the separate industry organizations would have to work hard to continue these programs. The issue passed by a margin of only 75.2 percent. Meat Board Chairman Jim Hauge said, “Today is a difficult and sentimental time," but noted that the plan represented what amounted to the best course of action for the : ndividual species. And Ron Curtis, chairman of the Meat Board’s Beef Industry Coun cil, said that while the plan wasn't perfect it was “the best plan possi ble,” and said, “the federation (of state beef councils) will remain the strong foundation on which a consumer-driven beef organiza tion can be built” John Lacey, a former NC A president and a mem ber of the Meat Board Executive Committee, said it was time for the industry “to move forward with Daltons Balia Anna was named the reserve Intermediate champion bred-and-owned heifer at the 1995 National Junior Angus Show In Louisville, Ky.
