Students of home economics and agriculture-related courses re ceived scholarships from the Flora Black Memorial Scholarship Fund presented by the Society of Farm Women of Pennsylvania. Those who received $l,OOO toward their education are Kristin Groif, Lan caster County; Carrie Hetrick, Berks County; Angela Leininger, Lancaster County; Cory Meyers, Franklin County; Bryan Pearson, Cambria County, and Kraig Sel lers, Lebanon County. Those receiving $250 are Jef frey Balmer, Lancaster County; David Creamer, Somerset County; Christine Habecker, Lebanon County: Shawn Norman, York County and Matthew Shaffer, York County. The Flora Black Memorial Scholarship, named for the found er of the Society of Farm Women of Pennsylvania, was established in 1%0 *" help educate girls stu dying home economics. This was< changed in 1994 to include daugh ters and sons of mothers or grand mothers who are society mem bers, studying home economics or agriculture related courses. The fund is supported by sales of a state cookbook. • KRISTIN GROFF is the daughter of Carlton and Carol Groff of Kirkwood, Lancaster County. She is a sophomore at Carleton College. She plans to work in plant genetics and take a biology seminar on sustainable agriculture. Her continued interest is to major in biology and go on to an agriculture or horticulture relat ed field. She is also continuing her interests in vocal music. Her mother belongs to Society #3l and grandmother to Society #2l of Lancaster County. • CARRIE LYNN HETRICK is the 20-year-old daughter of Ran dall C. Hetrick. She attends Penn State University where she is studying agricultural science. She Kristin Groff Bryan Pearson has experienced international agriculture first-hand by studying farming and working on a farm in Germany. She is the Berks County Dairy Princess Alternate. Her grandmother belongs to Berks County Group #l. • ANGELAN RENEE LEIN INGER is the daughter of Diane Leininger and a sophomore at Harcum College. She’s been in volved with pet facilitated ther apy, member of Organization for Animal Technician Students Dis trict 14-D Youth Seminar. She plans to work as a veterinary tech nician with larger animals. Her grandmother is a member of Lan caster County #3. • CORY E. MEYERS is the 17-year-old son of Elam and Di ana Meyers of Franklin County. He plans to attend Penn State Uni versity and study animal biosci ence in the fall. He plans a career as large animal veterinary prac rvtng ruling stry w quality agricultural lime since 1918 en Schoh tice. He’s been involved in various musical activities while in high school, 4-H Dairy Club and class president. His grandmother is a member of Society #5 of Franklin County. • BRYAN PEARSON is the son of Joseph and Suzane Pearson of Summerhill. He is attending Penn State University and majoring in wildlife and fisheries sciences.
