Compared to lilt week: Feeder iteen
and heifen firm to 2.00 higher. Steer
calvei iteady. Heifer calvea firm to 2.00
higher. Demand good for all clanei. High
er cost of gains and strong 4th quarter
CME slaughter contracts creating excellent
demand for heavy feeders that will have
short turn in feedlots. The light supply of
yearling feeders thruout the country that
are available to feedlots at present has also
sparked demand. Quality of supply plain to
average, end attractive. Feeder cattle flesh
condition attractive and mostly medium to
thin; calves varied from slightly thin thru
soft with most in medium condition. Bulk
of supply in average fill condition. Slaugh
ter cows steady. Slaughter bulls 1.00 high
er. Packer demand moderate to good. Sev
eral high quality, ranch fresh pairs included
in supply. Demand for replacements good,
especially for pairs.
Total of 491 cowl and bulls sold with
near 45 percent returning to the country.
Receipts this week 8,078; last week
6,560; last year 12,122. Supply consisted
of 74 percent yearlings and calves over 600
lbs; 20 percent calves under 600 lbs; 6 per
cent cows and bulls. Prices follow with
weighted average weight and price in
parenthesis.
